St. Mark's was devastated by earlier renovations that attempted to modernize the interior. A prior renovation of the 1970's removed the original marble high altar and side chapel altars, covered the terrazzo floor with orange commercial carpeting, etc. Fortunately the marble altars were fully recovered and placed in their original positions. The orange carpeting was removed and original terrazzo floor has been restored.

The new design by Murals by Jericho for St. Mark's was inspired by the masterpieces of Blessed Fra Angelico. This design includes thirteen recreations of Blessed Fra Angelico paintings, faux marble walls and columns, gold leaf work throughout the paintings, columns, capitols, and ceiling vaults. The sanctuary and nave ceiling vaults are finished in a two color blue glaze and adorned with over 4500 evenly spaced gold stars. The back sanctuary walls are decorated with faux marble and trompe l'oeil columns and frames that hold portraits of saints and miniature reporductions of Fra Angelico paintings.

Our work at St. Mark's was the impetus for it being designated the diocesan shrine of Blessed Fra Angelico. The official dedication ceremony was held on March 19, 2004 by Peoria's Bishop Daniel Jenky.
